Predict and Win Game of the Week: Syracuse at Pittsburgh, Houston at Tulsa

Big East: Syracuse at Pittsburgh

Syracuse is in for another tough weekend as they head to Pittsburgh to take on the 13th ranked Panthers. Not only will they be facing another top ranked team, they will be doing so without top receiver Mike Williams who shocked everyone when it was announced Monday that he was voluntarily leaving the program.

Williams lead the Syracuse receivers pulling down 49 completions for a total of 746 yards and six touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Pittsburg is on a tear going 7-1 so far this season, their best record since the early 80s, and should be well rested after last week’s bye. The last time the Panthers took the field, they hit USF hard both on the ground and in the air putting up a combined total of 486 yards in a lopsided 41-14 victory.

So far this season, Syracuse has done well defending against the rush and is currently ranked 9th in the country giving up only 89.4 rushing yards per game. Problem is, even if Syracuse can stop them on the ground, Pittsburgh’s offensive line has provided the protection quarterback Bill Stull needs to get it done in the air. Stull has led the Panthers to the 6th best pass efficiency in the country.

Conference USA: Huston at Tulsa

Currently the only BCS ranked team in Conference USA, #15 Houston, is looking to extend their 7-1 record against the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes. No question Tulsa will have their hands full against a Cougar offense that leads the country in passing yards, total offense and points per game.

If Houston wants to continue to put up big offensive numbers though, they’ll need to protect quarterback Case Keenum against a Tulsa defense that knows how to pressure.

In order to keep up, Tulsa won’t have time to hesitate on offense. Houston may know how to run the score but even with 43 points on the board and 559 yards passing, they still needed a last minute drive to keep from going into overtime against Southern Miss last weekend.

If Tulsa can slow the Cougar offense and take advantage of a point allowing defense, this could turn into another close game.
