Kevin Keane, a recent graduate from the University of Central Florida, was selected to be the host of the 2011 Bowl Week Videos for the 2011 Beef ‘O’ Brady’s St. Petersburg Bowl.
“Right place, right time”, the phrase I use to describe the day I arrived at Beef O’ Brady’s in Orlando, FL on a late September evening. Little did I know, being in the right place at the right time would be the spark that ignited the fuse to my lifelong dream of becoming a sportscaster. How randomly awesome is that?
It all began when my best bud Kyle suggested we go to Beef’s to chow down on some grub and watch the array of college football games kicking-off that evening. We entered the restaurant to a scene of bright lights, a camera crew, and contestants rehearsing lines for what looked like a news piece. Far from the typical atmosphere of the Beef’s I was accustomed to! A woman eagerly approached us as we took our seats and began to convince us we should audition for the role of the “Host of the 2011 Bowl Week Videos for the Beef O’ Brady’s Bowl”.
My excitement continued to build as I realized this was the key opportunity I had been waiting for to get my foot in the door with such an established bowl game as well as the “mother ship” of sports networks, ESPN. Without hesitation, I collected my thoughts and repeated in my head, “What would Kirk Herbstreit say, what would Kirk Herbstreit say.” The lights became brighter (or so they seemed), the little red light positioned on the camera flickered on, and it was GO TIME. As they say, the rest was history!
After a battle (for lack of a better word) for online votes, I was one of seven contestants invited back for the final audition in front of a panel of esteemed ESPN judges. No pressure, right?! Suffice it to say, I was up against some fierce competition. Everyone who contended for the top spot was more than capable in my eyes of earning the leading role, I just happened to be on fire that particular day. Exactly one week later, I received the exhilarating news that I had indeed won the competition and would be the 2011 Bowl Week video host of the Beef O’ Brady’s Bowl. Doing my best Aaron Rodgers “Double Check Discount” touchdown strut and tapping my Jimmy Valvano wristband that reads “Don’t Give up, Don’t Ever Give Up”, I came to the thrilling realization that my dream was finally becoming a reality.
So here I am, your 2011 host for the 2011 Beef O’ Brady’s Bowl on December 20th! As a recent UCF graduate and sports enthusiast, I could not be more excited to take you behind the scenes of the several exclusive events leading up to game day, as well as the Beef O’ Brady’s Bowl itself. Skiles) and all my family members for always encouraging me and allowing me to pursue my dreams in life without the slightest hesitation. Without you all, I would be nothing.
