3-6PM, TradeWinds Island Resort
Beach Bash is open to the public and will be from 3-6PM at the TradeWinds Island Resort. This is a bowl-week favorite, featuring teams and coaches of both schools enjoying fun in the sun, while participating in several entertaining activities at the TradeWinds Island Resort. Make sure to bring your swim trunks and flip-flops as well fans; this is an event open to the public and encourages interaction with players from Marshall and FIU. Beach Bash is full of engaging activities, such as blow-up slip ‘n slide races, watching players duke it out in the inflatable boxing ring, hula hoop contests and anything else the fabulous staff at TradeWinds will throw into the mix! The favorite always seems to be the ‘belly flop’ competition, pinning 300 pound linemen against one another, in a challenge to see who can make the biggest splash. If you’ve ever been to Sea World, you’ll know to stay a distance from the pool, as it’s destined to turn into one giant “Splash Zone” once the biggens of Marshall and FIU dive in…belly-first. Make certain not to miss out on this great event, Panther and Herd gang!

LUNCHEON, BATTLE OF THE BANDS, 5K RUN, BLOCK PARTY
12PM, Kickoff Luncheon, Renaissance Vinoy Resort
Monday is chock full of great events, beginning with the Kickoff Luncheon at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort in Downtown St. Petersburg at noon. The luncheon will feature a bevvy of speakers leading to the keynote speaker, former Philadephia Eagles icon, the inspirational Vince Papale. For those who don’t know the story of Papale, here’s a quick synopsis. Just getting by as a bartender and substitute teacher living in Philly during the ‘70s, this dreamer from the city of Brotherly Love had the aspiration of one day playing professional football for his hometown Eagles. At age 30, through determination and an indomitable will-to-win, Vince successfully made the Eagle’s squad after wooing then head coach, Dick Vermeil, during an open tryout. While playing football in Philadelphia for three seasons, Vince Papale became known as the real-life “Rocky” by Eagle’s fans across the city. In 2006 the movie “Invincible” was released, telling Vince’s inspirational road to the NFL as portrayed by actor Mark Wahlberg. If you haven’t yet seen this uplifting movie, I encourage you to rent it and watch it before attending the luncheon, as it will allow you to see what this man overcame in order to pursue a dream many said was impossible. Tables for the luncheon are going fast, so be sure to contact the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl St. Petersburg office at 727.290.9865 for this great event.
2:30-5PM, Battle of the Bands, TradeWinds Island Resort
Continuing with the excitement of Monday afternoon will be the spirited Battle of the Bands, between the Marshall University Marching Thunder and the FIU Panther Marching Band. This entertaining event is open to the public and will be held at the TradeWinds Island Resort and will showcase both ensembles as they duel in a contest of harmony, sound, and rhythm. In addition, the rival bands will be participating in a tug-of-war contest and wing eating challenge to determine the winner of this heated battle. Herd and Panther fans are encouraged to come out and cheer for their bands during this rousing annual event.
5PM , Bowl Block Party, Ferg’s Sports Bar
Capping off Monday’s thrilling lineup of events will be the Bowl Block Party, taking place at Ferg’s Sports Bar, located just one block north of Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
