Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl Introducing Jenna Laine
Friday, December 18
Hi guys!
I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I’m Jenna Laine, a St. Petersburg native, die-hard college football enthusiast, and former University of South Florida cheerleader. As some of you may know, I was selected as the winner of the inaugural Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl Talent Tryouts.
It was a two-part contest that featured online voting (a BIG thank you to those who voted for me and helped me become a finalist!) and then a live audition with a panel of Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl judges. I can’t tell you how excited I was when I got the phone call to tell me I had won! (My mom says it was the best birthday present ever)
As the winner, I get to be the official Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl On-Camera Host for the Bowl Week Video, covering all events leading up to the bowl, and on game day. I also get to stay in a beautiful hotel in downtown St. Petersburg, Hotel Indigo (the official hotel for the media), or as us locals call it, “St. Pete.” I can’t think of a better way to spend a winter holiday vacation than this!
Most of all, I get to take you guys with me, every step of the way – the Player VIP Party at Jannus Live, the Official Welcome Party, Beach Bash, the Kickoff Luncheon (featuring keynote speaker and NFL Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow), Battle of the Bands, Ferg’s Block Party, and of course, the big game at Tropicana Field! If you see me lurking around with a microphone, be sure to stop by and say hi!
All of the videos will be posted on the official Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl website, so be sure to check them out!
You guys will also get to meet the adorable Kelly-Jo, also a finalist in the Talent Tryouts, who will be leading the Ultimate Tailgate Challenge on gameday. Be sure to sign up for the Ultimate Tailgate Challenge, and you may just win a tickets + hotel to the bowl next year!
I’ll be blogging every day about my entire experience, from start to finish, including some behind-the-scenes stuff. After all, many of you helped me get here. Now I get to be your eyes and ears for the event. I think we’re going to have an amazing time too. The bowl has such a great team of people working to make this event spectacular!
The leader of the team is the bowl’s Executive Director, Brett Dulaney. Brett was actually part of the Talent Tryouts every step of the way, including our final audition. He shares the same passion for college football as the fans that will be in attendance, which is a primary reason this is one of the fastest growing bowl games in college football.

Speaking of the game, I am so stoked for this year’s matchup, featuring the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles and the Louisville Cardinals. We don’t just have ourselves a “Bowl of the Bay”…we’ve got a “Bowl of the Birds!” Larry Fedora’s high-powered offense at Southern Miss has scored 40 points or more in seven of its final eight games, while the Cards’ defense, under first-year head coach Charlie Strong, had two shutouts this year.
Personally, I don’t want a shutout game though. I like being on the edge of my seat, and hopefully you guys do too! This year’s event promises to be spectacular, and I am thrilled to be a part of it!
Stay tuned for updates throughout the bowl’s pre-game events, starting with tomorrow’s Player VIP Party and the Official Welcome Party at Jannus Live. If you’re in the area, definitely stop on by. It’s going to be a blast!

[...] Jenna Laine here – Happy New Year! As this is my final blog post, I wanted to take this time to reflect on all the blessing bestowed on me for 2010, particularly this experience. I didn’t find out about the Bowl Talent Tryouts contest until two nights before the video entry deadline. My boss actually forwarded an email to me with the contest link and said, “Hey – you’ve probably already seen this, but thought you might be interested.” So, I got ahold of my brother-in-law Josh’s camera and, after a night of watching the Tampa Bay Rays with my folks, I had them videotape me on the couch. I thought to myself at the time, ‘Jenna; the couch – really???’ But I submitted my entry and thought ‘Ah, what the heck. You never know until you try.’ [...]
